I believe Brad to be world class in his field, and would recommend him to any organisations requiring similar services." +++ I feel comfortable when you are on the project that things are happening with the key audience ... that you are boldly going where many fear to go, asking provocative questions, opening up seams of possibility and devoting energy to the cause (when at times the cause can be somewhat clouded). I also have valued the work you have done to build other coaches confidence and capability ( P) particularly. While important to the project the value gained transcends the project activity. At one stage I felt we should be more in coach the coaches mode .. now I am happy that your time is better leveraged in direct conversations with the targets .. albeit we need to figure out how to transition when you move on to other stimulating activity ! We also need to work harder at picking up on the possibilities that you generate. At a personal level ..I value the provocation your insight and training bring .. you help me reset my thinking each time we talk, it's all too easy to fall into conventional wisdom and a day to day operational mindset. I value the snippets of behavioural stuff, many of which I now employ. +++ What I found v useful was the idea of very quickly managing a conversation towards someone's beliefs and using that as a way of leveraging their thinking (and, with your expertise, without them knowing you were doing that !) This provoked me to listen out for 'beliefs' and think more about the connection with behaviour, i.e. Behaviours are Beliefs in Action. It has since also made me think that maybe changing behaviour by addressing beliefs isn't as difficult as I had previously thought, and maybe there is a case for having a bash at it on an organisational level; i.e. being overt about the beliefs you want the organisation to have and then managing a process to help people take them on. I am reminded of the Dupont safety training, where on of the basic elements of their philosophy is that " all accidents are preventable " and surprise surprise if you take that on there are less accidents; .................as opposed to "accidents happen"! +++ Brad , Your suggested tactics have worked - thanks! Spoke to B today and he has a) confirmed that the 'people & relationships' isn't really being tackled at the detailed level yet (oh dear, our company does it again) and) could do with some questions for the forthcoming question sessions/visits.. which I will think about andc) I'm now going to a mtg next Thurs to get it going. Fab. +++ I meant to send you a message, and things overtook me last week - apologies. In the event we actually met up on Tuesday evening - and it was brilliant! Things have gone from brilliant to better ever since - in situations with everyone I thought I was having problems with. The only couple of times the prickly blob started up and down, I deliberately and (I thought) very quickly, turned it away and I felt (and still feel) much, much better and far more in control of myself! THANK YOU VERY, VERY MUCH!!!!!! - what now?! +++ Your facilitation was... ...Low key ...Able to tune in to the energies in the room and see where peoples emotions were taking them ...Exploring methods by which participants could find out for themselves, rather than accept presented logic ...Great balance to my somewhat lock-step style ...Someone participants could identify with, therefore effective. ...All in all, just the ticket for what we set out to achieve. Thanks again Brad, trust all is well with you. +++ Brad's Use : 1. Opening me out - good questioning; efficient coaching and empathy 2. Help me understand my drivers and available to discuss them 3. Make links between my beliefs and IT 4. Grounding me in practical ways forward with project 5. A model of how folks can work together on IT 6. There when I'm travelling 7. Has Links across the world 8. Giver of hope +++ Well let's use today as an example. For me it's a linkage function; the situation we have here … is partly technical and a whole bigger bit political/behavioural. I would guess that your interventions this morning will land a whole lot better than either my plaintive / wronged customer attempts or J's well intentioned club hammer. It's a non biased fresh, well worded alternative. +++ Our session the other day already helped, for your interest. I started to hear my system tell me that something wasn't quite right that very evening & pulled out of a meeting in London the next morning based on this. Even though logically I did not have 100% evidence for this. The next morning I felt fine for a while, but then a vertebrae or two slipped in my back. To cut a long story short I ended up in osteopath and hospital and a lot of pain for a while, but am progressing well wearing a neck brace and taking pain killers. It's to do with the way I sleep on planes apparently! Prognosis good if I do this more sensibly in future but my advice to everybody is to use one of those inflatable neck cushions if you want to sleep. +++ Just a short note to say thank you very much for facilitating yesterdays meeting. I am appreciative of the value you contributed in both the process of getting feedback and getting constructive contributions from the attendees during the discussions. My feeling was that everyone felt the meeting was worthwhile, and the proof in the pudding is the actions/deliverables that came out of it. +++ I'm conscious again of 'what am I giving you' in return? Feedback? .....* that this process is helping a lot... and could lead to the best move I make, career-wise* that others (outside the company) can't believe how lucky I am to be able to receive this sort of coaching - i.e. they have no such access/opportunity keeps the important things in life at the top of my priority list! +++ Breakthru' in facilitation happened earlier this week. Won't go into the details here, but suddenly it clicked and was away, ok. I was chairing the meeting and there was supposed to be a facilitator, but he didn't turn up for first two hours so did it myself. Outcome was unclear, so couldn't over-plan, but just looked around for energy, enthusiasm, and answers to the problems we face. Was regarded as very successful as it happens! A turning point for me I think, thought you'd appreciate the feedback. +++ ...i feel humble and grateful...Gosh. Thank you for the time you took. Your edits are improvements. I knew that my own angst about this seeped through my words, and I knew these would not be the words that would go public, but they had to be put down before I lost my courage/foolhardiness. Thank you for your care. (what is the symbol for a virtual hug?) +++ Brad is working with us in the arena of Accelerated Learning.
